Into the Light – Why a Survivor Support Group?
“For many survivors of suicide loss, the journey of healing can be lonely, painful, and confusing. Survivors may feel stigmatized or ashamed, as if the suicide was somehow their fault. They may feel abandoned by friends and family who don't seem able to give the comfort and support they need. They may not know anyone else who has ever been through this, and feel they have no one to talk to who can really understand their experience.” (Quote from Facilitating Suicide Bereavement Support Groups)
Three of our ASSURE committee members have been trained by the AFSP to facilitate this support group. The goal is to provide an opportunity for survivors to talk openly with others who truly understand because they've been through it too. The group meetings will be open to any suicide loss survivor whether the loss was recent or many years ago. The meetings will start on September 10th and continue each month through December. Survivors can join any or all of the meetings. Participants will not be pressured to talk. There is no fee to take part in this support group. For more information, contact us.
