Area Suicide SUpport REsources (ASSURE) was organized by like-minded people whose lives have been affected by the suicide of a loved one or close acquaintance. Our mission is to bring awareness of suicide prevention practices throughout Mercer County and the surrounding area through community outreach programs. We are here to support those who experience thoughts of suicide and their families, as well, as suicide loss survivors by providing support resources, support groups, and by providing financial assistance to those unable to pay for a suicide related expense. ASSURE utilizes the 501(c) tax designation through the Mercer County Civic Foundation.
In Ohio, the statistics indicate that every six hours someone dies by suicide. Suicide affects everyone: young, old, rich, poor, community leaders, neighbors and friends. Mercer County is no exception. Sadly, in recent years, there has been a spike in suicides by teens and young adults. Every suicide loss matters, we have to work toward reducing or limiting these deaths!
In the past few years we have sponsored community walks in conjunction with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). These walks have been a major part of our ability to promote suicide awareness. AFSP is the largest not for profit organization that continues to provide valuable research, training, literature and expertise. ASSURE will continue to support the AFSP.
